What we provide
- Weekly individual supervision with a Utah-licensed LCSW, scheduled as a standing calendar hold from your first week. Protected time, not “whenever there’s a gap.” Utah’s rule requires at least weekly meetings for a full-time supervisee, each at least 50 minutes.
- A written supervision contract, signed before supervision begins, that meets Utah Admin. Code R156-60e-307.1, including the meeting plan, documentation plan, ethics plan (which now must include a plan for how AI tools are used in supervision, notes, and administration), conflict and breach plan, and remote-supervision plan.
- Documentation of your supervised hours in the form DOPL requires, signed at least quarterly.
- All 100 required hours of direct clinical supervision at no cost to you. On the Utah market that runs around $12,500.
Utah’s 2026 rule
Utah consolidated its mental health rules into Utah Admin. Code R156-60e, effective January 1, 2026 and amended May 26, 2026. Under it, a supervisor must hold Division-approved Clinical Supervisor status from DOPL (R156-60e-305.1), which requires a training course (R156-60e-306.1) and an application. Every supervisor, including those already supervising, must have that status by January 1, 2027 (Utah Code § 58-60-102(4)).
Not yet set. Helen’s Division-approved Clinical Supervisor status is in process, not yet confirmed. Until DOPL confirms it, supervision can begin but hours may not count toward licensure. We’re telling you this plainly because you’re being hired partly for the supervision, and you should know exactly where it stands.
Your DOPL filings
Within 30 days of starting supervision, you must submit to DOPL your supervision contract and a clearly defined job description consistent with your scope (R156-60e-309.1). The practice prepares both and files them with you. If your place of employment changes, you and your supervisor each notify DOPL within 30 days.Hours
Under Utah Code § 58-60-205(1), as amended in 2025, LCSW applicants must document at least 1,200 hours of direct client care after completing the degree, including at least 100 hours of direct clinical supervision, at least 25 of which are direct observation and no more than 25 of which are group supervision. A separate figure, 3,000 hours of clinical supervision or two years, applies only where federal Medicare rules require it for a clinician to be an eligible professional. Older sources still cite 3,000 or 4,000 total hours as the baseline; they’re out of date.Important. Confirm the current requirement directly with DOPL yourself. Requirements change, and the license is yours. We’ll walk through the math with you, but we’re not the authority and won’t pretend to be.
The honest timeline note
A four-day week with a 32-session cap slows your hours. At 16 sessions a week over 46 worked weeks, that’s about 736 direct-care hours a year, so the 1,200-hour minimum takes roughly a year and eight months, and a Medicare-driven 3,000-hour target takes longer. You can shorten that by working up toward the cap while still working four days. We say this on the hiring site and we say it here, so nobody finds out later.Your responsibilities
- Show up to supervision prepared, with cases and questions.
- Keep your own log of supervised hours and reconcile it with your supervisor’s monthly log.
- Practice only within what your license, your supervision contract, and your supervisor allow. A CSW practices mental health therapy only under supervision (Utah Code § 58-60-202(3)).
- Tell your supervisor immediately about any crisis, safety concern, boundary issue, or complaint involving a client. See Crisis and safety protocol.
- Give each client the notice Utah requires: your name, license type and number, your supervisor’s name and license, and how to reach DOPL. The practice’s intake packet carries it; make sure yours is current.
