We’re a therapy practice, not a courtroom. Dress in a way that’s comfortable, clean, and appropriate for the clients you’re seeing. Business casual is the norm; use judgment.

In the office

  • Clean and neat. Clothing in good repair.
  • Nothing with offensive text or images.
  • Nothing so casual it distracts: no beachwear, no sleepwear.
  • Fragrance light or none. Some clients and colleagues are sensitive.

On telehealth

  • Same standard from the waist up, and please, the waist down too. People stand up.
  • A tidy, neutral background, or a virtual one. No visible client information, personal photos that invite questions, or anything you wouldn’t want a client to see.
  • Good lighting on your face. Sound that works. Test it before your first session of the day.

Identification

Wear or display your name and credential as your license requires. Clients are entitled to know who’s treating them and at what license level. CSWs should be introduced, and introduce themselves, as CSWs under supervision.

Personal expression

Tattoos, piercings, hair, and personal style are yours. We don’t regulate them beyond the standards above. Gender expression is protected here; dress in the way that fits you.
